Designed & developed an informational website for Maj. Sapru

The author, Maj. Abhay Sapru, needed a personal website that showcased his published books, shared his thoughts, and provided readers with an easy way to explore, review, and purchase his works. The challenge was to create a platform that felt refined, credible, and storytelling-driven, reflecting the tone of a decorated military officer turned author.

Maj. Sapru didn’t have a digital presence that effectively to:

  • Communicated his story and expertise

  • Highlighted his literary works with clarity

  • Made it easy for readers to discover books and contact him

How I planned the content flow & user experience

1. IDEATION & STRUCTURE:

Mapped out key sections that align with user goals:

  • Home / Hero

  • Books / Publications

2. WIREFRAMES:

Sketched simple layouts to establish:

  • Information hierarchy

  • Navigation flow

  • Placement of trust cues (titles, experience, reviews)

3. HIGH FIDELITY DESIGNS:

Using Figma, translated wireframes into a refined UI with:

  • Elegant typography

  • Balanced layout

  • Visual focus on book covers

4. IMPLEMENTATION:

Used WordPress for development, ensuring:

  • Cross-device consistency

  • Scalable content structure

  • Easy backend updates for the author

UI & design Decisions

TONE & ASTHETICS:

A minimal, elegant aesthetic chosen to reflect the author’s voice, serious, thoughtful, & credible.

VISUAL HIERARCHY:

  • The hero section briefly introduces Maj. Sapru

  • Book covers and excerpts visually guide the user focus

  • Consistent spacing and typography improve readability

NAVIGATION:

Clear navigation categories (About, Books, Contact) help users quickly find what they’re looking for.

I designed and developed a minimal yet elegant website focused on clarity and storytelling.
Using Figma for UI design and WordPress for development, I built a structure that highlights each book with its cover, description, reviews, and purchase links. The layout maintains a strong visual hierarchy and uses typography to create a sense of sophistication. A simple Contact Page enables quick reader and media outreach.

Initial designs were iterated with feedback from the client, especially around:

  • Taglines and hero text hierarchy
